Menu 'Defaults'

  • The 'Defaults' menu comprises various defaults settings of the site:
    • The site name to be displayed in the title bar of the browser.

    • What pages shall act as the homepage and error page.

    • Default sitestyle. (Note: For any page you can define a deviating sitestyle, overriding this default setting.)

    • Information for search engines (so-called META information): Keywords and a description of the site, as well as options to prevent listing of your site in search engines.

    • Default properties for publishing of news items. (Note: For any sitestyle or for any page you can define deviating properties, overriding these default settings.)

  • When QwikZite is delivered to you, it already contains a number of default settings to provide an easy start.

    Explanatory notes to the input fields
    ID:The ID (identification number of the set of defaults) is automatically generated.
    Working title:The working title is not visible at the frontend.

    If multiple sets of defaults are 'active' (see bottom of this page), automatically the set of defaults with the alphabetically first working title will be applied.
    Name of the site:This name is displayed in the title bar of the browser, befóre the page title.
    (As example: see the current title bar of your screen.)

    All characters, also spaces and dots, are permitted.
    Default sitestyle:Select the sitestyle to be applied for pages without a fixed sitestyle.

    Home page:Select the page to be shown when visitors are opening the site.

    If nó selection is made, the page with the alphabetically first working title is used as homepage.
    Default error page:Select the page to be shown when visitors have used a wrong URL or when the URL concerned doesn't exist any longer.

    You can make a specific page with such error notification, but you can also automatically redirect visitors to the homepage of the site.
    Default META keywords:Beside title and contents of a page, search engines like Google use 'keywords' to index webpages in their database.
    You can add these keywords or keyphrases here yourself, separated by a comma and space, e.g.:

    cms, content management system, manual, open source, website, website development, multilingual, package, internet, internet package, webhosting, qwikzite

    The keywords are added to all pages at the frontend. They are not directly displayed in the screen, but can be viewed through the option 'view - source' of your browser.
    Default META description:Search engines like Google also use a 'description' (short summarizing text of your site) to be displayed in search results.
    You can add this description here yourself, e.g.:

    QwikZite.Net is the support site and meeting place for users and developers of the content management system QwikZite.

    The description is added to all pages at the frontend. It is not directly displayed in the screen, but can be viewed through the option 'view - source' of your browser.
    Robots NOINDEX:Activate this checkbox if you do not want your webpages to be indexed by search engines and included in their databases.
    Robots NOFOLLOW:Activate this checkbox if you do not want search engines to follow the page links in your site to search the other webpages.
    News area (maximum number of news items):The (maximum) number of news items (short version) to be displayed in the NEWS AREA, for preventing (too) long pages.
    Entering the value 0 will display áll items.

    The entered value is the default setting for the whole site and serves the user's benefit. In any sitestyle and any page you can define a deviating value, overriding the default setting.

    News area ('Read more' text):Text automatically displayed as hyperlink beneath the short version of each news item, to refer to the long version. The text is only displayed if a long version is available.
    E.g.: Read more ....
    The same text is displayed in the list on the NEWS PAGE, behind the news page titles.

    The entered text is the default text for the whole site and serves the user's benefit. In any sitestyle and any page you can define a deviating text, overriding the default setting.

    News page (title):Title of the newspage.

    The entered title is the default title for the whole site and serves the user's benefit. In any sitestyle and any page you can define a deviating title, overriding the default setting.

    News page (maximum number of news items):The (maximum) number of news items (long version) to be fully displayed on the NEWS PAGE. Beneath these full versions, the titles of the other items will be displayed in a clickable list.

    To prevent (too) long pages: try to find a good balance between the number and length of the items.
    Entering the value 0 will display áll items.

    The entered value is the default setting for the whole site and serves the user's benefit. In any sitestyle and any page you can define a deviating value, overriding the default setting.

    Active:Activate this checkbox is you want to use this set of defaults.

    In principle only one set of defaults shall be active.
    If multiple sets of defaults are active, automatically the set of defaults with the alphabetically first working title will be applied.
